I received a call from a friend of mine saying there were rumors that a snowy owl was hanging out along the Montrose Pier in Chicago. I decided to get up well before sunrise to get out there before any other photographers showed up. It was a great call. Not only was there a snowy owl, but there were two! It seems a sibling pair had made their way down the coast of Lake Michigan. I sat alone, freezing in the December Chicago air, waiting for the sun to rise. One by one a few photographers made their way out to my postion. Everyone was incredibly respectful of the pair, setting up quietly while keeping their distance. For some reason, one of the pair flew over to the other to harass them for a few moments, as any good sibling would, then returned to its side of the pier. This capture was at the perfect moment as it flew down to bug the other. The morning light was soft as the sun lit up its feathers.
