Something about elephants sparks my imagination. Their complex social structures and communication abilities are beyond our own understanding. I sat on this particular day watching a large family of around 20 elephants strip a grove of trees in Tarangire National Park, Tanzania. Young babies and juveniles watched and mimicked the adult’s techniques. Secrets are passed down through the generations ensuring the survival of the species. I wanted to capture some of the strongest features of an elephant all in one image. Each part is crucial to the animals’ survival. They say the eyes are the window to the soul.
