Ngoro Stare

“Ngoro Stare” is one of my favorite new fine art pieces available through my website. Available in both color and black and white. Only 6 limited edition prints are available in 4 different sizes.
15% of each sale will be donated to Dr. Gabby Wild and her foundation to continue to protect wildlife in Africa and across the globe.

The morning started out cold and foggy as it often does this time of year inside the Ngorongoro Crater. There is only one winding road in and one winding road out. On our descent down inside, we could smell the kill before we spotted the lions cleaning what was left. One massive male lion with blood covering most of his face reluctantly shared with the pride before wandering off for an early morning nap with a full belly.

For a few moments, I scrambled to find a decent composition of this savage but there was so much vegetation between him and my lens. His direction took him away from my position. I settled for a few side profile shots but not the coveted straight-on eye contact image I was hoping for.
Just seconds later my colleague and friend Steven Ngowi founder of Ndifo Safari spotted a second huge male who had decided to join the rest of the pride. He snuck up behind us and took in the whole scene before moving directly at me. Click, I focused my lens perfectly on his eyes as one of the world’s top predators stared me down creating the image you see before you. “Ngoro Stare”.
