Since I was a little child, I have been drawn to the power of a storm. There is something about the energy and beauty that pulls me in. On this day, June 10th, 2026, I drove my car out to Chicago’s Planetarium to set up my tripod and wait for the incoming storm.
At first, it didn’t seem like it was going to produce all that much. I chatted with tourists. Took a few time-lapse videos. In all, it seemed like the whole adventure was not going to be worth the time it took out of my day. Then the wall arrived. Blue and grey storm clouds filled the sky, making the city look so inferior. I knew the storm was going to hit hard.
I had to time my panoramic just right. Now! I stopped my timelapse and completed one pass at a six-image panoramic. Grabbed my gear and sprinted to my car just in time to get all the equipment in before the monsoon-like rain hit. Stormchasing certainly comes with risk, but the reward is that much sweeter when it all works out.
